Rangers fans are already “voting with their feet” and it will only get worse if results and performances don’t drastically improve.
That is the view of podcaster David Herd from Four Lads Had a Dream, and he believes the fans who never wanted the appointment of Russell Martin are now being proven right.
A 2-0 defeat to Hearts on Saturday means the Ibrox side are now without a win in their first five league games for the first time in 47 years, and could potentially find themselves bottom of the table before their next Premiership game.
And the podcaster believes there is now a toxic mix of anger and apathy that will bring large empty patches in the stadium for upcoming games unless there is a change.
Speaking to STV Sport on Monday, he said: “There is a mixture of apathy and anger, there is obviously the anger that you saw on Saturday.
“But, I think if you look underneath that, the cup tie (against Hibs next weekend) is not selling out particularly well, the European packages aren’t selling particularly well, the hospitality tickets aren’t selling out.
“So, I think the fans are starting to vote with their feet already, and that will only get worse.”
Lawrence Shankland scored twice as Derek McInnes’ side moved nine points clear of Rangers after just five games.
Home supporters made their feelings clear towards Martin with chants calling for him to go throughout the 90 minutes.
And David said it was a result, and a reaction, that many could see coming.
He said: “It was a weekend that, unfortunately, had been coming for the last few weeks, and one when the Rangers support turned on the manager.
“It is a manager that most didn’t want in the first place, and he has unfortunately proved them right.
“It was pretty poisonous on Saturday. It has been coming for a few weeks, and we were always a bad result away from an atmosphere like that.
“The manager was the target of, what I would say is the most sustained level of abuse I have ever seen in all my days going there.
“It reminds me of when Philippe Clement lost to Queen’s Park last season, Patrick Stewart gave him the vote of confidence but it only took one more bad result before the inevitable happened, and it feels in this case that the same will happen again.
“Another defeat will happen, and then I don’t think they will have a choice anymore.”
