FIFA has revealed the amount of prize money that will be on offer at next summer’s World Cup in North America.
Each of the 48 qualified nations, including Scotland, will receive between £7.8m (if they exit at the group stage) and £37.5m for the nation that lifts the trophy in New York on July 19.
The game’s global governing body approved a total prize pot of £545m at a meeting in Doha on Wednesday.
Each country will receive £1.1m in preparation costs, before being handed at least a further £6.7m just for competing in the group stage.
The teams that exit at the first knockout game will be handed a total of £8.2m, those that are defeated in the last 16 will get £11.2m, while the losing quarter-finalists will each receive £14.2m.
The semi-finalists who lose the third-place play-off will receive £20.2m, with £21.7m for the bronze medallists, and the runners-up will be awarded £24.7m.
Scotland will be at their first men’s World Cup in 28 years when they make the trip across the Atlantic to play Haiti and Morocco, in Boston, and Brazil in Miami.
Steve Clarke’s side qualified with an epic 4-2 win over Denmark at Hampden thanks to goals from Scott McTominay, Lawrence Shankland, Kieran Tierney, and Kenny McLean.
Meanwhile, fan groups have accused FIFA of playing “PR games” over ticket prices.
Football’s world governing body announced on Tuesday that £45 tickets would be made available in the allocations national associations sell to their most loyal fans, after widespread criticism of the initial pricing.
However, only 10% of tickets within this allocation will be available at this price.
