Falkirk have accepted Scott Arfield’s “request to leave the club”.
The midfielder moves on after only starting one game since September 13.
The 37-year-old enjoyed an emotional and successful return to his first club in the second half of last season.
The former Canada international netted a hat-trick in his comeback game and scored nine goals in 13 matches to help the Bairns win the William Hill Championship.
Arfield wore the number 37 shirt he had adorned throughout his time away from the club, in memory of close friend and former team-mate Craig Gowans, who died aged 17 after a training-ground accident 20 years ago.
The former Burnley and Rangers player has only started four Premiership games though and his winner at Motherwell in October proved to be his final goal for the Bairns.
Falkirk chief executive Jamie Swinney said: “Scott leaves Falkirk FC with our very best wishes. He will always be welcome at the Falkirk Stadium.”
A club statement added: “Following Scott’s departure, the number 37 shirt will be once again retired in memory of Craig Gowans.”
