Celtic have launched a bid for Sheffield United defender Auston Trusty.

The central defender signed a four-year contract with Sheffield United from Arsenal in August 2023 after spending a season on loan at Birmingham City.

The 24-year-old never made a competitive appearance for Arsenal, having signed for the Gunners in 2022 following his departure from Colorado Rapids.

Trusty, a USA international, was named Birmingham’s Player of the Year during his time at the club.

STV News understands Celtic are looking to add another central defender to their ranks after Kobayashi left the club and Lagerbielke went out on loan.

Eredivisie side FC Twente confirmed the signing of the Sweden international on Tuesday.

The Hoops also confirmed the sale of midfielder Matt O’Riley to Brighton and Hove Albion on Monday, in a deal understood to be in the region of £30m – the most expensive transfer in Scottish football history.
