Celtic extend lead at top of table with 4-1 Hamilton win

Celtic have moved seven points clear in the Scottish Premiership with a 4-1 win over ten-man Hamilton.

Marios Ogkmpoe gave the hosts a surprise lead that lasted around ten minutes until Odsonne Edouard equalised from a free-kick.

Hamilton player Jamie Hamilton was sent off for the foul that lead to the free-kick.

The score-line remained at 1-1 until Christopher Jullien scored to put the champions ahead on the 78th minute.

Then the floodgates opened at New Douglas Park with Edouard scoring another before James Forrest put the icing on the cake with a fourth.

The Celtic manager, who danced a jig of delight after the third goal, says that despite their Glasgow rivals having a game in hand, he is more than satisfied with the healthy cushion his side have opened up at the top.

Neil Lennon said: “It’s called relief.

“You want to capitalise and make the most of things. When the third went in we had three points wrapped up.

“We thoroughly deserved it and we will only get more of that – teams making it hard to break them down.

“Psychologically it’s good. I’m thinking it’s four rather than seven as I’m assuming the opposition will win their game in hand. It’s the first buffer for a while.

“I’m delighted with the result and three points. I wasn’t happy with the first half. The structure made it difficult. They set up really well.

“I’m proud of the players and the momentum we’ve built at the start of year has been fantastic.”
