Celtic and County return to training ahead of new season

Celtic have made a phased return to training ahead of the 2020/21 season.

Fellow top-flight club Ross County also returned on Thursday as preparations get underway for a return to action after 12 weeks off.

Both clubs kept training in line with Scottish Government guidance with a small group of players maintaining the two-metre distance rule.

Celtic captain Scott Brown was among those returning and the 34-year-old said he was happy to be back.

He told Celtic TV: “It was good to see some of the lads and get back into the swing of things.

“I am 35 in a couple of weeks so for me especially I need to stay on top of my fitness as much as I possibly can.”

James Forrest, Callum McGregor and Tom Rogic were also among the small group of first team stars making their returns.

The Premiership season was halted in March with Celtic 13 points ahead of second placed Rangers.

The club, who are going for a tenth consecutive title in a row in the season ahead, were confirmed as champions in May.

Ross County confirmed the return on their official Twitter account, saying: “Some familiar faces returned today as the boys were back to training at the Global Energy Stadium.

“Training was done in individual zones to comply with latest government guidance.”
