Falkirk not feeling any fear ahead of Premier Sports Cup trip to Celtic

Coll Donaldson is adamant Celtic’s midweek Champions League masterclass will not prompt rampant Falkirk to deploy cautious tactics in Sunday’s Premier Sports Cup quarter-final.

Brendan Rodgers’ side continued their scintillating start to the season by destroying Slovakian champions Slovan Bratislava 5-1 on Tuesday.

“It doesn’t get any harder domestically than this,” said Bairns defender Donaldson. “A lot of people have said ‘oh no, they’ve won 5-1 in a Champions League game’, but we know how good Celtic are even if they hadn’t won on Tuesday.

“That’s not made a difference to our thinking. We’ve done our homework and we do feel there are aspects we can attack and try and hurt Celtic.”

Falkirk head to Celtic Park buoyed by an incredible run of 43 league games unbeaten, which has incorporated a League One title triumph last term and a five-match winning streak at the start of this season that has taken them top of the Championship.

Donaldson explained that manager John McGlynn will not allow them to deviate from the approach that has brought them so much prosperity.

“I think we’re lucky in that I would much rather be playing for a gaffer that’s going to go to Celtic Park and have a go rather than just park the bus and wait on the inevitable,” said the centre-back.

“It’s refreshing to have a manager that’s looking at ways we can attack them and how we can look after the ball. There’s no point in working throughout pre-season on a system, training every day that way, then throwing it all out the window when you go and play Celtic.

“If you’ve go and sit on the edge of your box, they’ve got good enough players to break you down so you need to have something different. If you do have a bad result, at least you had a go at doing it on your own terms. We’ll try and play the way we normally do and get after Celtic. Anything can happen, we’re really excited for it.”
