Former Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has featured in a promotional video celebrating Saudi Arabia’s national holiday while wearing full traditional dress and holding a gun.

Rodgers resigned as Celtic manager back in October after the reigning champions slipped eight points behind Hearts.

It came after they dropped 10 points in their opening nine matches, and the Glasgow side have not fared much better since his departure, currently sitting third in the Scottish Premiership table following a 2-1 defeat to Hibs on Sunday.

Rodgers returned to management just seven weeks after quitting Parkhead, taking up a role as the new boss of Saudi Pro League side Al Qadsiah.

In the video posted on the club’s social media accounts, the Northern Irishman can be seen celebrating Founding Day, a holiday that commemorates the first Saudi state in 1727.

“It probably looks a lot cooler on other people, but I think today is about respecting Founding Day here in Saudi Arabia, and of course, I will always respectfully wear it”, Rodgers said, when told he looks “sharp”.

“I want to give my sincere congratulations to all of the people of Saudi Arabia, Saudi Arabia has a really rich heritage and a really exciting future ahead.”

Rodgers resigned from Celtic after a difficult start to the season, which had followed a summer transfer window where he believed the club had failed to strengthen a squad that had delivered back-to-back titles during his second spell in charge.

Following his departure, Celtic’s largest single shareholder Dermot Desmond accused the manager of being “divisive, misleading, and self-serving” and that his behaviour in the final months of his time in Glasgow had contributed to a “toxic atmosphere” at the club that had led to hostility towards senior figures and the board.
