Eilish McColgan has announced that she will not be competing in the World Athletics Champions as she continues her recovery from injury.
A knee problem has kept the Scot out of competition since April and she has made the call not to push herself to participate at the event in Budapest, which starts this weekend.
“Sadly, I’ve made the hard decision to miss this year’s World Championships in Budapest,” McColgan wrote on social media.
“We always knew it was going to be tight to make it to the start line, having carried a knee injury since April.
“We tried everything we could to be ready for this weekend, but ran out of time to get back into spikes. Hopeful I’ll be able to showcase my fitness on the roads this autumn.”
The Commonwealth Games 10,000m champion, who broke Paula Radcliffe’s British record in March, had previously admitted that her medal hopes in Budapest would be non-existent even if fit, but that she was going to aim to compete.
