Dutch legend Ruud Gullit hopes his compatriot Giovanni van Bronckhorst can bring the Europa League trophy to Ibrox with victory in Seville next week.

Rangers face Eintracht Frankfurt in the final of the competition on Wednesday and Gullit wants to see his fellow countryman succeed.

“We have a lot of Dutch players who previously played at Rangers and for Giavanni to be back at his old nest was a wise one and a good choice,” said Gullit.

“He didn’t win the title here but he has a big chance of winning a European trophy and I wish him all the luck – I would love him to win it because nobody remembers anymore who lost in the final”

The Ibrox club booked their place in the Europa League final at the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán Stadium next week after a thrilling 3-1 win against RB Leipzig.

It could be a significant week for Scottish and Dutch football with Gullit and Van Bronckhorst’s former side Feyenoord taking on Jose Mourinho’s Roma in the inaugural UEFA Conference League Final.

“He [Van Bronckhorst] did a great job at Feyenoord also – so he brings success with him and I’m very proud of him and it’s good for the Dutch”

Gullit was speaking at the Beatson Cancer Charity Sportsman Dinner in Glasgow.
