Rangers and Dundee United have shared two Premiership points with a 1-1 draw at Ibrox.

Sam Dalby opened the scoring with a first-half header to put Dundee United ahead before Vaclav Cerny equalised in the second.

The game was delayed for just under an hour after the away side’s team bus was delayed due to travel disruptions caused by Storm Bert.

When it finally got underway there were few chances at either end in a cagey opening half-hour with Rangers having most of the early possession.

The home side came close through Nicolas Raskin and Nedim Bajrami who both forced good saves from Jack Walton.

But it was United who took the lead when Dalby was left unmarked in the box and he met a pinpoint cross by Vicko Sevelj to head it past Butland and make it 1-0.

Kai Fotheringham and David Babunski both had efforts as they looked to increase the away side’s lead.

And Rangers had the ball in the net at the end of the half through Robin Propper but the goal was ruled out for a handball.

Philippe Clement made a couple of changes at half-time as he brought on Yanis Hagi and Danilo in the place of Mohamed Diomande and Cyriel Dessers as he looked for a spark to get them back into the game.

Danilo had a good opportunity to bring the home side level when Cerny burst through the United defence before cutting it back to the Brazilian forward whose effort was wide of the post when he would have been expecting to hit the target.

Cerny was looking like Rangers’ biggest threat and he came close just moments later with a curling shot from outside the box that sailed just over the bar.

The pressure finally paid off and it was the Czech winger who grabbed the goal to make it 1-1 with 25 minutes remaining.

Rangers kept pushing for a winner with Dundee United also looking dangerous on the counter-attack into the closing stages.

The home side nearly won it with a late attack after a deflected shot from Hagi caused some commotion in the United box before Walton managed to claw it away from danger with just minutes remaining.

Rangers had more of an attacking threat in the closing stages and Walton pulled off a great save to deny Dujon Sterling in the seventh minute of injury-time, but Jim Goodwin’s side held out for a point.

The draw leaves Rangers eight points behind league leaders Celtic who take on Hearts at Tynecastle in Saturday’s late kick-off.
