Dundee United have held league leaders Celtic to a draw at Tannadice.

Both sides take a point each after failing to find the net in a 0-0 draw in Tayside on Sunday afternoon.

The Hoops stay nine points clear at the top of the Premiership despite failing to win in the league for just the second time this season.

That’s because Aberdeen lost to Hibernian on Saturday and were leapfrogged by Rangers who moved into second-place with a victory over Dundee at Ibrox.

Celtic had the best of a scrappy start with Daizen Maeda and Reo Hatate both coming close to opening the scoring in the first 15 minutes.

Former Dundee man Luke McCowan then tried his luck on his return to the city of discovery when his effort whistled just wide of the post.

Kyogo curled one just past the post on the half-hour mark as the league leaders kept knocking at the door of the hosts.

The game started to open up a bit more after the break and Kasper Schmeichel did well to deny United after their first attempt at goal.

Rodgers then rang the changes with Luis Palma and Adam Idah both coming on for Yang and McCowan.

Dundee United came close to taking the lead with 20 minutes remaining on the clock but Schmeichel easily saved a timid close-range effort from Glen Middleton.

Jack Walton was then called into action and the United keeper did well to stop a looping header from Maeda from hitting the net as he clawed it out for a corner.

Kyogo should have had the visitors ahead with just over ten minutes remaining when he was put one-on-one with Walton by a deft touch from Idah but the Japan forward was unable to connect the way he would have liked and the keeper was quick off the mark to make the save.

Celtic had a flurry of corners in the last five minutes as they tried desperately for a winner while Dundee United seemed content to hold on for the point.

Walton pulled off a great save with his feet in injury-time to deny a toe-poke from Arne Engels in the closing stages.

Kyogo then had an effort sail just wide of the post as the seconds ticked away towards full-time.
