Dundee and Rangers take a point each from Dens Park draw

More away day misery for Rangers as they drop another two points on the road.

Dundee and Rangers have shared two Premiership points with a 1-1 draw at Dens Park.

Both sides scored in the first-half on Thursday night as Philippe Clement’s men failed to win on the road yet again.

Rangers have won just three away games from 11 in the league this season and now trail Celtic by 15 points after 21 matches.

Dundee move up to seventh in the table as they leapfrog Hibernian on goal-difference after the well-earned point at home.

Oluwaseun Adewumi handed the home side an early lead before Vaclav Cerny brought Rangers level towards the end of the first-half.

It was all square at half-time with both sides having a string of chances in the first 45 but scoring with their only shot on target.

Rangers dominated most of the possession after the break but were ultimately unable to find a breakthrough with Dundee also coming close on a couple of occasions and having a goal ruled out for offside.

The first chance of the game came the way of the visitors when Nedim Bajrami found himself in space inside the area before firing a shot over the bar.

Dundee opened the scoring soon after when Josh Mulligan was quickest to react to a deflected Scott Tiffony shot before cutting it back across the box to Adewumi who smashed the ball past Liam Kelly and into the net to make it 1-0.

Philippe Clement’s side tried to get back into the game quickly and Ridvan Yilmaz had an effort from range but failed to hit the target.

Rangers had most of the early possession without having too much in terms of clear cut chances while Dundee also looked dangerous.

The equaliser came from a quick counter attack with Ianis Hagi and Hamza Igamane combining well to create space for Cerny who showed good composure to slot it past Trevor Carson and make it 1-1.

Rangers started brightest after the break and Cerny had a good chance to put them in front but his initial effort was well saved by Carson before the Czech winger fired the rebound wide of the post.

Dundee had the ball in the net again just after the hour mark but Adewumi’s close-range strike was chopped off for an offside against Simon Murray in the build-up.

Carson then did well to deny Igamane when the Moroccan forward tried his luck with a half-volley from the edge of the area.

Moments later Dundee burst through the Rangers defence and the ball fell to Adewumi at the edge of the area, but his effort flew over the bar.

The Austrian forward continued to cause the visitors problems and this time he forced Kelly into a good save with a long-range shot as the game reached the final 15 minutes.

Mohamed Diomande came mere inches away from giving Rangers a late lead when he struck the crossbar with a long-range strike inside the last five minutes.

The game ended 1-1 meaning Rangers only have one victory from their last five games and two from their last eight.
