Swimmer Duncan Scott has become Scotland’s most decorated Olympian after securing a silver medal in Paris.
Scott picked up his eighth Olympic medal in the men’s 200 metres individual medley putting him ahead of Sir Chris Hoy.
He also moved level with Sir Bradley Wiggins and only Sir Jason Kenny has more among British athletes after securing two golds and six silvers.
Cyclist Hoy had seven Olympic medals in a storied career – six golds and one silver.
Congratulations were in order for Scott with First Minister John Swinney leading the celebrations.
He posted on X: “Well done Duncan Scott. Another superb achievement.”
Scottish Swimming posted on X: “And with that Duncan becomes the most decorated Scottish Olympian with eight medals, surpassing Sir Chris Hoy’s total.
“In the words of Ade Moorhouse on commentary: “Duncan Scott, one of the best British swimmers we have ever seen.”
Chief Executive of sportscotland, Forbes Dunlop, said: “Many congratulations to Duncan on winning silver in the 200m Individual Medley.
“Duncan is one of the world’s leading swimmers and continues to deliver when it matters most, he is an inspiration to the next generation of athletes in Scotland.”
