A fundraiser to help Dumbarton Football Club with running costs has reached £60,000.

The GoFundMe page launched on Tuesday had an initial target of £50,000 but exceeded that number in the first couple of days.

Organisers say every penny raised will go towards paying the wages of players and staff after the club entered administration earlier this week.

The target has now been raised to £100,000.

The fundraiser reads: “Support the fighting fund to save our club.

“Due to the club not receiving financial support from the majority shareholder or monies owed to it, the directors took the hard decision to put the club into administration in order to find a solution to overcome its financial challenges.

“We would greatly appreciate any support you can give.”

Dumbarton are now at the bottom of League One after being deducted 15 points as a result of the administration process.

Latest accounts show the club were owed more than £1.6m, and that a payment of £300,000 against that loan had not been paid.

Club directors appointed Glasgow-based financial advisors Quantuma as administrators on November 18 after they “were left with no option” after failing to receive money owed from the sale of development land in 2021.

Police confirmed on Thursday they are investigating alleged fraudulent activity at the club, who are one of the oldest in the country and have been champions of Scotland on two occasions.
