Don Cowie believes Ross County have to take encouragement from their Dundee fightback into Sunday’s crucial game against Motherwell.

Tony Docherty’s side took the lead in the second half at Dens Park on Wednesday night through Scott Tiffoney and seemed on course to secure their William Hill Premiership status.

The struggling Staggies had lost their previous seven matches but deep in added time Ronan Hale salvaged a much-needed point with a controversial penalty after Ryan Astley headed the ball on to Antonio Portales’ arm.

The goal left Cowie’s side still in the relegation play-off spot, two points behind the Taysiders going into the final game of the season at home to Motherwell, with Dundee away to already-relegated St Johnstone.

Cowie said: “We’ve got to feel good. We’ve got to feel positive.

“We managed to produce a draw when it looked unlikely at that stage of the game on Wednesday night.

“It gives us an opportunity. Big game Sunday. We know what we need to do and that has to be the full focus, win the game and then you see what comes on the back of that.

“The goal was massive in terms of that feeling of stopping the run of losing games.

“The manner in which it came with how late it was, we were still disappointed that we didn’t win the match because that was what we set out to achieve.

“But it was important that we found the way of getting that equaliser, which means that there’s still an awful lot to play for on Sunday.

“I believe first half we were the better team. I thought we played well.

“The frustrating part was we didn’t manage to get the goal our play merited, and that’s important.

“It would have been easy to sort of let the heads go down.

“Dundee score early in the second half, the game looks like is getting away from us and what we managed to do on Wednesday that we’ve not done recently, is we find that way of getting a goal and getting a really important point which like I say, set things up nicely for Sunday.”
