Don Cowie calls for Ross County to stick together through latest survival scrap

Ross County manager Don Cowie stressed the need for togetherness as the Staggies bid to avoid being dragged further into relegation danger.

County have lost six consecutive William Hill Premiership games and a seventh in Perth on Saturday would see bottom club St Johnstone move three points behind with a better goal difference with two matches left.

The Staggies need to pick up points to get out of the play-off position and Cowie knows they need everyone pulling in the same direction.

“We’ve had a challenging period,” he said in a club video. “There’s no doubting that.

“But what we do in those times is we stick together. We get through the situation that we’re in.

“We’ve got a huge week coming up. It starts with St Johnstone. It’s a game that we, with the geographical side, take our biggest away support to that match. I’m sure that will be no different this week. It’s just the context of the game.

“That’s huge for us as a group of players and staff coming out to see that support. It means everything. It gives you that boost. It gives you that encouragement to go and produce a result for them.”

County are in familiar territory having beaten Partick Thistle and Raith Rovers in the play-off final in the past two seasons.

Cowie hopes those experiences can help drag them through the latest survival battle.

“Well, we’ve been in this scenario numerous times,” he said. “Like I say, it’s a time to be together, to get through it.

“There are players in our team who have gone through that in previous seasons. It can be a good thing. They can use that experience that they’ve got to help others around them, to tell them what’s at stake, to tell them what it takes to get the result that you need.

“I’m delighted with the experienced players that we’ve got, but it’s up to them to then go and show the performance on the pitch to get the result.”
