Derek McInnes has challenged Kilmarnock to bounce back from their Rangers collapse and keep their fading top-six hopes alive with victory at Ross County on Saturday.
The Rugby Park side looked in a strong position when they led 2-0 at home to Barry Ferguson’s Gers with half an hour gone on Wednesday, only to lose 4-2.
The defeat leaves Killie in 10th, five points adrift of sixth-placed Hearts, with just five games to play before the William Hill Premiership split in April.
McInnes believes it is important his side, who are still threatened by relegation, do not give up hope of getting into the top six for a second successive season.
“We dust ourselves down for Ross County, where it’s important we try and get something from the game,” said the Killie boss.
“But I still believe… I want my team to be ambitious and be motivated to think that if we can find some good form and replicate a lot of what we did in the first half on Wednesday, that there will be wins there for us.
“We won’t always come up against teams of Rangers’ quality in the next few weeks. Hopefully we can get the wins that we need to hang on to that top-six aspiration.”
