Derek McInnes is excited to get the opportunity to work with Liverpool right-back Calvin Ramsay again and insists Kilmarnock can help him rediscover his top form.
The pair worked together at Aberdeen when McInnes handed the youngster his first-team debut in 2021.
Both departed Pittodrie soon after with McInnes landing at Rugby Park and Ramsay getting a dream move to English Premier League giants Liverpool.
They will now work together again after the 21-year-old joined the Ayrshire club on loan for the rest of the season.
After making two first-team appearances at Liverpool and earning a Scotland cap he has struggled to kick on and found himself out on loan to Preston North End, Bolton Wanderers and Wigan over the last couple of seasons.
He has now returned to Scotland to work with McInnes again in a move that the Killie manager believes will help Ramsay “get back to basics”.
Speaking on Wednesday as they prepare for a trip to Celtic Park in the Scottish Cup on Saturday, the manager said: “After I left Aberdeen he went on to get a really strong move to Liverpool, I think Liverpool are a brilliant club, but in all honesty it hasn’t went as well as he would have expected.
“I think if you look at it there are a lot of different reasons for that, what we feel and what Liverpool feels at this moment in time is that he needs to be working with someone he knows.
“They want him to get back to basics and just try to get a really successful loan, it’s all part of the learning curve for Calvin.
“I think if you actually strip it back, what we are getting is a really attacking right-back with a lot of pace and a lot of quality and hopefully we can get that boy and find the player that we know is in there.”
