Dens Park has passed a “precautionary inspection” ahead of this weekend’s Premiership clash between Dundee and Motherwell.

It was feared that the game would have to be moved to an alternative venue if the Tayside club could not get the pitch ready in time for 3pm on Saturday.

Dundee revealed on Thursday that talks were ongoing between the club and the league following on from a week of heavy rain in the area.

But Motherwell say that they have been informed that the pitch has passed an initial inspection and will be covered until another check takes place.

Four games at the stadium have fell foul of the weather already this season with the latest game called off coming just before the recent international break when they were due to play Rangers.

That game will now be played next Wednesday.

Motherwell released a statement saying: “Dundee have held a precautionary pitch inspection at Dens Park this afternoon and at present time, the pitch has passed that inspection.

“Rain covers are now going on the pitch to try and limit water onto the playing surface. It is likely the covers will stay down on the pitch until Saturday morning.

“Depending on the weather, we expect a further pitch inspection to be arranged on Saturday morning.

“Updates will be communicated to supporters as soon as we receive them from Dundee.”
