Scotland fans watching the World Cup semi-final in Glasgow were delighted as Argentina secured a win over England.
With Scotland knocked out of the tournament, many members of the Tartan Army watched Thomas Tuchel’s side take on Argentina in pubs around the city.
Reflecting the long-held sporting rivalry with their opponents south of the border, fans were often seen in Argentina colours as well as Scotland shirts.
At Walkabout sports bar in Glasgow, fans were rapt during the tense game between the two sides.
Shannon McNulty, from Clydebank, said the win was “absolutely brilliant”.
Asked why she supported Argentina, the 24-year-old simply said “we’re Scottish”.
Seonaith MacDonald, who is 19 and from Glasgow, was watching the game while wearing an Argentina strip.
Reflecting on the game at half-time, he said: “Sort of what I expected – a lot of bookings, a lot of fight. A lot of battle, a lot of grit.
“There’s quite a lot of history with this clash.”
However, some England fans also braved the pubs in Glasgow in order to watch the semi-final.
Harrison Johnson, who is 23 and from Durham, said: “Absolutely cracking match tonight.
“It’s a shame that we’ve gone out, but I’m proud of our team making it to the semi-finals.”
Ollie Kirkham, from Blackpool, was disappointed to hear Scots cheering for Argentina.
The 37-year-old said: “It’s just a bit heartbreaking, how the Scottish people treat us.
“We would never, ever cheer for Scotland’s opponent.”
Serena Burton, from Nottingham, said she is “half and half” and had been supporting both Scotland and England in the World Cup.
The 26-year-old said: “We did so well in the first half and as in the Euros we bottled it in the second half.”
Jake Fraser, who is 34 and from Lincoln, was optimistic at half-time as he watched the match.
He said: “Argentina are just being dirty, but England are going to smash it.
“They’re going to get a goal in the next half, hopefully 2-0 England.”
