Declan Gallagher has signed for St Mirren immediately after agreeing his exit from Aberdeen.

The 31-year-old defender has agreed a two-year deal to join Stephen Robinson’s team and will be part of the squad when they travel to Northern Ireland for their pre-season training camp.

Gallagher, a Scotland international with eight caps, played 31 times for Aberdeen last season but was not part of manager Jim Goodwin’s plans.

The centre-back will now take the place in the St Mirren squad that was vacated by Connor McCarthy, who has agreed a move to Barnsley.

Gallagher has worked with Robinson before, with the St Mirren boss having signed him for Motherwell in 2019. That move led to international recognition before he left Fir Park for Pittodrie last summer.

The signing is St Mirren’s sixth of the summer, with Gallagher following Mark O’Hara, Trevor Carson, Jonah Ayunga, Toyosi Olusanya and Ryan Strain in making a move to Paisley.
