Martindale: Livingston want to continue proving people wrong

Livi are preparing to take on Ross County in the Premiership play-off final.

David Martindale says Livingston have “continually proven people wrong” over the last decade as he aims to get them back to the Premiership in the first time of asking.

The Almondvale club are preparing to take on Ross County in a two-legged play-off final with a place in next season’s top flight on the line.

Before their win over Partick Thistle in the last round, they posted on social media saying “not liked, not wanted, not bothered” in response to a perceived opinion from fans of other clubs preferring other promotion candidates.

The manager says the popularity of the club among other supporters doesn’t bother him and believes Livi flourish as an underdog.

When asked about the graphic posted on X, Martindale joked: “That sounds like me.”

He continued: “It doesn’t bother me, it doesn’t bother me at all. It’s not anything I read into, but I think if you look at from where I started to where I am now, it probably mimics me.

“So I’m alright with being the underdog, I’m alright with being written off.

“There’s been many occasions over the years that’s happened to me, and there’s many occasions I’ve proved everyone wrong.

“As a club, I think we’ve consistently proven a lot of people wrong over the last ten years, and hopefully we can go and do that again.

“I don’t know if it’s us they don’t like or if it’s the park they don’t like, but maybe a bit of both.”

Livi host the Staggies in the first leg of the play-off at Almondvale on Thursday night before the decisive second leg in the Highlands the following Monday.
