David Gray has told Hibernian they will not get away with a repeat of their Ibrox flop last month when they host Danny Rohl’s Rangers on Wednesday.
Hibs were one of only three Scottish sides to lose to Gers under previous boss Russell Martin when they were defeated 2-0 in the Premier Sports Cup quarter-final.
They have improved since then, winning each of their last two matches against Livingston and Aberdeen. The Light Blues, meanwhile, have changed managers, with Rohl taking the reins from Martin last week and overseeing a 3-0 Europa League defeat by Brann and then a 3-1 home win over Kilmarnock.
“We’ve obviously not got a lot to go off,” said Gray when asked by the challenge awaiting his side in Wednesday’s William Hill Premiership clash at Easter Road.
“(Rohl) won’t have had a lot of time on the grass with the team but we’re guarding against players that are off the back of a good win.
“They’ve changed a couple of systems now, played two different shapes. Within that, we know whatever shape or system they play, they’re a good side with good players.
“But we’re very much looking at our own level of performance, looking at the last time we played against them and how we can improve on that performance.
“I don’t think we played anywhere near the level we can and as a result of that, we didn’t get anything from the game. So for us to get a result tomorrow night, we know what we need to do and that’s what I’m concentrating on more than anything.
“Yes, you look at the opposition, you look at things (Rohl) might have done at other clubs, but you can’t dive too much into it other than the two performances they’ve had. It’s more about our level of performance.”
Gray revealed midfielder Dylan Levitt is set to be out until after the November international break after having his appendix removed, while young attacker Rudi Molotnikov is facing six to eight weeks out with an ankle issue.
