Dejected Danny Rohl revealed his frustration at Rangers conceding two “easy” goals in their 2-1 Europa League defeat by Ferencvaros in Budapest.
Gers striker Bojan Miovski scored an acrobatic opener in the 27th minute to give the visitors the lead but Bence Otvos levelled for Robbie Keane’s side in the fifth of five added minutes at the end of the first half when the Ibrox men switched off.
Striker Barnabas Varga was allowed to head in from close range in the 73rd minute without much interference from the Gers defence to leave the Light Blues with just one point from 18 in the league phase – four of the fixtures under the German coach who took over from Russell Martin in October.
Rohl, who has won five out of seven domestic games, told Rangers TV that the defending had to be better against the Hungarian side.
“We are disappointed and angry at ourselves,” said the German boss, who will have Miovski assessed after the North Macedonia international had to come off with a knock.
“We gift them two easy, conceded goals.
“We were good in the game in the first half, a clean sheet, we make the good goal. I think the plan was there.
“And then 20 seconds before half-time, you get the first conceded goal and then the second conceded goal, it’s too easy, really too easy.
“To take something at this level you need clean sheets.
“Again, I think this is a second time. We scored against Braga, 1-0 and gave a gift, today as well, and for me, on this level, then you will not deserve to win these games.
“And this makes me really disappointed.
“Go in at half-time with a clean sheet, it was 20 seconds to go.
“Defend well, nothing happens. We go out and they have to attack more and more, and the space opens up. And then you have the transition moments.
“But also in the second half when it was 1-1, we had so many transition moments where we’re not clinical enough, we lose the ball too quick, and this is about game management, be clinical in these games, to take something.”
