Former Hearts boss Craig Levein has taken on a new role as an advisor to the board at Brechin City.

Levein has agreed to take on a full-time unpaid role to aid the club in its attempt to win promotion from the Highland League to the SPFL.

The 56-year-old, best known for his time managing Scotland and as player, manager and director of football during several spells at Hearts, will advise the new management team at Brechin City when they are appointed. He will also work behind the scenes to improve the infrastructure at the club.

“Brechin have a tough job ahead of them and will need to have bags of resilience, focus and stamina to get back to League Two,” Levein said.

“New interim Brechin chairman Kevin Mackie has a clear vision for the club and it’s one which I believe in.

“Brechin City is a pretty special club who’ve been around for over 115 years and Kevin, who is Brechin born and bred, is intent on strengthening the club by building a sustainable business model around it.

“I’ve known him for many years and I have no doubt he will take the bull by the horns to turn things around for Brechin.”

Brechin lost their place in the league set-up after finishing bottom of League Two last season and then losing to Kelty Hearts in the pyramid play-off.
