Connor Smith is looking to lay down roots at St Johnstone after joining the Perth club from Hearts.

The 21-year-old has signed for Saints on a deal until the end of next season after spending the first half of the campaign on loan at Scunthorpe.

The Scotland Under-21 international previously had loan spells at Cowdenbeath, Arbroath, Cove Rangers, Queen’s Park and Hamilton Accies as well as making 19 appearances for Hearts.

With well over 100 first-team games under his belt, Smith told St Johnstone’s website: “The loan moves have all proved really useful in my development but I need to be settling down now and concentrating on one club.

“I was most recently at Scunthorpe but I felt it was best to be in Scotland and playing regularly in the Premiership and this move gives me the chance to do that.”

Smith added: “It was Craig Levein who gave me my debut for Hearts when I was only 16 so he knows all about me and what I can do. I worked with Andy Kirk at Tynecastle as well so having them here has certainly influenced my decision to join Saints.”
