Rangers have appointed a new first team coach as Ceri Bowley joins from the City Football Group.

Bowley joined CFG, who own several football clubs including Manchester City and New York City, in 2019 after a spell with the English FA.

He worked alongside Giovanni van Bronckhorst for around six months before the Dutchman was hired as Rangers manager.

Bowley led the creation of, and implementation of the ‘City Football Methodology’ which is now in place across all of their clubs and is applied in coaching, sport science, performance analysis and talent identification and recruitment, with a focus on individual player and team development.

Prior to his role with the City Football Group, Bowley was the Academy Director at Barry Town, and has also been employed by Swansea City and Merthyr Town FC in coaching capacities.

He also holds a PhD in sport psychology and coaching science.

He joins van Bronckhorst’s coaching staff and the manager says the pair built up a “close relationship” in 2019.

He said: “I worked with him a couple of years ago and built-up a good relationship with him.

“He will join my staff and help all of us to improve our players, and the players will work closely with him to make sure their development goes faster.

“We have identified areas that we want to see improvement in, so I am really happy that he has joined us.”
