Celtic have signed Uruguay international Diego Laxalt on loan from AC Milan until the end of the season.
Neil Lennon has been on the hunt for a left-sided defender since Boli Bolingoli left the club on loan last month.
Laxalt has been capped 24 times for Uruguay, including four appearances in the World Cup in Russia two years ago.
The 27-year-old has previously played for Inter Milan, Bologna, Empoli, Genoa and Torino, and can play as a left back, left winger and central midfielder.
He becomes Lennon’s sixth summer signing after the arrivals of Mohamed Elyounoussi, Vasilis Barkas, Albian Ajeti, David Turnbull and Shane Duffy.
“I heard rumours a few days ago but I was very calm about it,” Laxalt said. “In the last few hours I learned that I was going to move here to Celtic, which is a great opportunity for me.
“It’s a great club and I can’t wait to play.”
The Uruguayan could now play against his parent club with Celtic and Milan in the same Europa League group.
“It’s a coincidence that they are in the same group,” he said. “It doesn’t really matter who the opposition is, my head and heart is now at Celtic.
“I can’t wait for the opportunity to play and show everything I can do for the club.”
Celtic have also confirmed that 20-year-old forward Jack Aitchison has left the club, signing a three-year contract at Barnsley.
