Celtic are “progressing well” in a deal to sign Brighton defender Shane Duffy on a season-long loan.

Neil Lennon has made it clear he wants to add a central defender during this transfer window after the departure of Jozo Simunovic, with Duffy being their number one target.

The Scottish Champions faced competition from the likes of West Brom and West Ham for the 28-year-old’s signature but Celtic are progressing well to get the deal done.

The Irish international is now set to travel to Scotland to finalise the move – after making it known he wanted to join his boyhood club.

Celtic will pay a significant loan fee to secure Duffy’s services as well as a large part of the players wages.

The defender made 19 appearances for Brighton in the Premier League last season – scoring one goal.

Duffy is set to become Celtic’s fifth summer signing after the arrivals of Mohamed Elyounoussi, Vasilis Barkas, Albian Ajeti and David Turnbull.

Speaking after Celtic’s 3-0 win over Motherwell, Neil Lennon says he’s still looking to add a couple more signings to his squad before the window closes in October.
