Celtic lost a penalty shootout following a draw with Everton at the Sydney Cup.

Thousands of Hoops fans were in attendance at the ACCOR stadium for the game that took place in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The 3.45am UK time kick-off meant the supporters left at home had to have their alarm set for an early start.

Ange Postecoglou was left disappointed by his team’s performance in their opening game defeat down under to Sydney FC midweek.

But the Celtic manager would have been far more content after a much better showing against Frank Lampard’s English Premier League side.

Much like large parts of their Champions League campaign the Premiership leaders dominated possession and created numerous chances but again failed to convert.

After a 0-0 draw in 90 minutes, it was time for the dreaded penalty shootout.

Giorgos Giakoumakis and Reo Hatate both missed from the spot and Everton scored four of their five to win 4-2, with Scotland’s former Rangers right-back Nathan Patterson scoring his penalty.

The Merseyside club stepped in to replace Rangers in the Sydney tournament after the Ibrox club pulled out earlier this year.
