A Celtic fan says he was fined 30,000 Kazakhstani tenge for smoking a vape in Almaty.

The supporter has made the 3,500-mile trip east for Tuesday night’s Champions League play-off second leg clash.

In April last year, Kazakhstan enacted a sweeping ban on the import, sale, production, and distribution of vaping products, including e-cigarettes and their liquids and flavourings.

In a post to social media on Monday, X user Joe Joe Harp claimed he was only in the country for “30 seconds” when he was approached by officers and handed the fine, the equivalent of around £40.

Alongside a picture of the fine, he also joked that the experience had dented his confidence that Celtic will get win over Kairat needed to reach the league phase of the top competition.

He said: “In Kazakhstan 30 seconds and fined for smoking a vape.

“Can’t see us getting a result tomorrow if I’m being honest.”

Celtic take on Kairat Almaty on Tuesday night with a place in the league phase of the Champions League on the line.

The Hoops will need to leave Kazakhstan with a win following last week’s 0-0 first-leg draw in Glasgow.
