Carl Starfelt will start for Celtic against Real Madrid in their final Champions League group game.

The defender hasn’t played since early September but has recovered from a knee injury and will replace Cameron Carter-Vickers in the Celtic defence at Estadio Santiago Bernabeu.

The Scottish champions can’t finish higher than fourth in their group but are hoping to sign off with a positive result against the holders.

Ange Postecoglou has named a strong team for the encounter, though Jota and Sead Haksabanovic are on the bench.

Joe Hart is in goals, with Celtic playing a back four of Greg Taylor, Moritz Jenz, Starfelt and Josip Juranovic.

Matt O’Riley, Aaron Mooy and Reo Hatate will form a midfield trio, with Daizen maeda and Liel Abada playing either side of striker Kyogo Furuhashi.

Scott Bain, Benjamin Siegrist, Giorgos Giakoumakis, David Turnbull, James McCarthy, Alexandro Bernabei, Oliver Abildgaard, James Forrest, Anthony Ralston and Stephen Welsh join Haksabanovic and Jota on the bench.

Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti was waiting to hear if Karim Benzema would be fit enough to lead the line but the French striker has been named on the bench.
