Cantwell: Rangers stars will be remembered by winning trophies

Cantwell is keen to add more medals to his collection after lifting the League Cup on Sunday.

Todd Cantwell says Rangers players will be remembered for the trophies they win at Ibrox as he looks to add to the League Cup they won on Sunday.

The midfielder started the final as he claimed his first medal since joining from Norwich just under a year ago and he is keen to add more to his collection.

A James Tavernier strike in the second half was the difference as Philippe Clement’s side beat Aberdeen at Hampden to lift the first piece of silverware of this season.

They are now looking ahead as they aim to bring more glory to the fans with another three trophies still to play for.

They are currently five points off the top in the Premiership with two games in hand over league leaders Celtic and secured their place in the last-16 of the Europa League with a victory over Real Betis last week.

And with their Scottish Cup campaign also set to get up and running with a trip to Dumbarton next month there will be plenty of opportunities to add to the trophy room and that is something that Cantwell is relishing.

He said: “The plan was to come here and try to get a hold of some trophies, so it’s a good way to start the season.

“Aberdeen made it difficult for us, we had to pay to the conditions as well as it was pretty boggy out there so the tempo wasn’t as good as we’d like but the win is the important thing.

“The manager’s building a team that wants to fight for each other and win as many trophies as possible. Football can change really quickly but it’s going really well so far. He’s implemented the way he wants to play and it’s working well.

“I think we have all adapted and decided internally that we’re happy to do so, the changing room is a great changing room and we are all happy with how it’s going.

“Every player sets out to win things, we are not going to be remembered for our songs, we are going to be remembered for what we’ve won by the time we’ve left and I’ve been here just coming up to a year now and that’s one medal in the bank and we’ve got loads more opportunities to come.”
