Calvin Ramsay 'has a point to prove' after move to St Mirren on loan

The right-back has joined the Buddies on a season-long loan deal from Liverpool

St Mirren’s tenth summer signing Calvin Ramsay says he has a point to prove and is determined to be a success at the Paisley club.

The right-back, who has joined the Buddies on a season-long loan deal from Liverpool, has found game time limited during loan spells at several other clubs, including Kilmarnock.

Speaking to STV Sport, Ramsay said: “I needed to get back playing again. Obviously knowing the league and being here before I just wanted to come back up and prove a point and show everyone how good I can be.’’

When asked who he needs to prove a point to, Ramsay replied: ‘’Just everyone, really. I’ve been out of senior football for a while, and I’ve not played many games. I just want to remind people I’m good enough and prove my talent.’’

The 23-year-old came through the Aberdeen youth system before making his senior debut for the Dons in 2021.

The following year, Ramsay moved to Liverpool for a fee of £6.5m.

The defender could make his Saints debut at home to Motherwell this weekend and says he’s suited to St Mirren’s style of play.

“I spoke to the manager [Craig McLeish] a few times. He said it’s a different St Mirren from the previous few years. They want to play more football and that will suit me well. I’m comfortable with this,” he said.

“I want to play 30 or 40 games and see where that takes me.’’
