Callum Davidson’s proposed move to Dundee has hit a snag after initial talks, but the former St Johnstone manager remains the front runner to replace Gary Bowyer.
Bowyer left Dens Park after helping the club win the Championship and gain promotion to the Scottish Premiership last week.
Davidson, who won the League Cup and Scottish Cup with the Perth side, has been touted as a potential replacement for the Englishman.
STV understands that he has held discussions with Dundee chiefs over taking charge for next season but the move now appears to be in doubt.
The former St Johnstone boss left McDiarmid Park last month after a poor run of results left them facing a relegation dog-fight.
Dundee are believed to have pinpointed him as their number one candidate for the job vacated by Bowyer after they clinched the second tier title with victory over Queen’s Park on the final day of the season.
Any potential move is now up in the air after they failed to reach an agreement following initial discussions.
But the former Scotland defender is still believed to be the front-runner as both parties look to iron out any differences.
Dundee will return to the Premiership for next season after a season in the Championship.
