The head coach of the Caledonia Gladiators women’s side has been appointed to a new role with the club.
Miguel Ortega was confirmed as the new head of basketball of the East Kilbride team on Wednesday.
Ortega will continue coaching the women’s team but also have now oversight across all aspects of performance, from engaging with young players to steering the club’s strategy and the operations of all teams.
The Spaniard arrived in South Lanarkshire in the summer of 2022 and was named coach of the year after leading the Gladiators to a second-placed finish in the Women’s British Basketball League in his first season.
He also guided the team into their European debut this campaign along with another strong showing in the league.
In a statement released on the club’s website he said: “I am delighted to take up the position as head of basketball for Caledonia Gladiators and I am looking forward to helping shape the basketball programme to ensure our club thrives on the court and offers young Scottish players a pathway to play at the highest level.”
