Jack Butland has hailed the “special” atmosphere inside Ibrox for the game with PSV as one of the best he has ever experienced as he targets more nights like that in the southside of Glasgow.

The England international was between the sticks for the Champions League play-off game on Tuesday that ended in a 2-2 draw.

Fifty-thousand fans packed into the stadium for the end-to-end game that set up a winner takes all second leg in Eindhoven next week.

And the 30-year-old former Stoke City and Manchester United was impressed with the noise created and is hungry for more nights like that as Michael Beale’s men aim for Champions League progression.

He said: “That was pretty special. It was some atmosphere. We’re perhaps a little disappointed with the result in the end, but a really good performance.

“I think we were good value for the draw and it gives us something to go to Eindhoven with next week and get the job done.

“It was an incredible atmosphere. I just wish we had held on for the win.

“It was one of the best atmospheres I have ever played in so I am hoping for plenty more of them.

“You can be frustrated if you like, but realistically we have played against a top side and put ourselves in a good position for next week.

“It is a two-legged tie. You can look at it in many different ways.”

Abdallah Sima put Rangers ahead with a stunning first-half finish to put the Premiership side 1-0 up before Rabbi Matondo came off the bench to grab the second as the sides shared four-goals in a repeat of last season’s first leg at the same stage.

This time last year the Ibrox side finished off the job with a 1-0 win in the Netherlands that secured group stage football and Butland is looking forward to the game next Wednesday as they look to replicate last season’s success.

He said: “Rabbi, what an impact he made. Sima, what a finish.

“A lot of positives to come from it, maybe we could have scored more goals, could we have been a bit tidier and better? Yeah, but that is where we will get better as a team.

“Positive night, really enjoyed it and really looking forward to next week.”
