Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers felt new striker Shin Yamada made a positive impact on his debut.
Yamada came on midway through the second half at Pittodrie on Sunday, immediately after fellow Japan international Reo Hatate had scored Celtic’s second goal in a 2-0 win over Aberdeen.
The 24-year-old was midway through the J-League campaign when he arrived from Kawasaki Frontale in late July but is being eased into the Celtic team by Rodgers, who is still looking to add to his front line.
Yamada came on for Adam Idah, linked play well a few times and tried some flicks which did not quite come off.
His best moment was in his own penalty box when he produced a crucial intervention to put Dante Polvara off his stride as the Aberdeen midfielder looked set to capitalise on a loose ball following a set-piece.
Rodgers said: “It’s (trying to find) moments in games when you can use them. So, yes, it was important. I wanted to see him in a game where there’s something really on it, away from home, and seeing his physicality in the game.
“He’s got lots of things he needs to work on, but he’s got a good attitude and he wants to get better.
“He’ll feel, coming into the game, that he was positive in his play.”
