Hibs have revealed that summer signing Kieron Bowie is to miss around four months of football after suffering a serious hamstring injury.

The Easter Road club signed Bowie from English Premier League side Fulham in August, paying what they said was a “significant” fee to land the 21-year-old.

Bowie has made four substitute appearances so far and got off the mark with a goal against Dundee.

However, the striker, who spent time on the sidelines with a hamstring issue last season, was injured on international duty with Scotland Under-21s and a scan has revealed a serious injury that Hibs say will rule him out until next year.

“First of all, I am gutted for Kieron,” head coach David Gray said. “I know how hard he worked to come back from his previous injury and how desperate he’s been to impress after joining us, which is something he’s certainly done.

“Given his injury history we were conscious of managing his minutes at the start of the season, despite the temptation to play him more because of the positive start he made. With that in mind, it makes it even more frustrating that he has picked up a significant injury during this period.

“Now it’s up to us to rally around him, support him with his recovery and make sure he has everything he needs to come back stronger, which I’m sure he will.”

Hibs added to their attacking options on Thursday with the signing of veteran former Crystal Palace and Newcastle United forward Dwight Gayle on a deal until the end of the season.
