Aberdeen’s plans for the new season have been dealt an early blow after Dante Polvara suffered a serious injury.
The American midfielder has a hamstring tear that is expected to rule him out until around the end of October.
With new Dons boss Jimmy Thelin hoping to hit the ground running, the absence of the 24-year-old is a setback just days before the campaign begins with a Premier Sports Cup tie at Queen of the South.
Polvara joined Aberdeen in 2022 and signed a contract extension last year. He played a key role in the latter stages of last season and Thelin said that he had made a positive impression during the manager’s short time at the club so far.
“We’re clearly all very disappointed for Dante, particularly as he had made such a positive impression during pre-season”, Thelin said.
“He’s an important player for us to lose at such an early stage in our season but he will have the full support of everyone at the club and I’m sure he will come back stronger from this setback.”
