American golfer Billy Horschel has tipped David Moyes as the next Scotland manager, saying he believes Moyes has “something up his sleeve” in the next two years.
Moyes left the West Ham job at the end of last season and is currently out of work and though Steve Clarke is in position as manager of the men’s national team, there has been speculation about his eventual successor following the side’s disappointing showing at Euro 2024.
Horschel is a well-known West Ham fan and is currently playing at The Open with his clubs in a West Ham branded bag.
When asked about his football team’s new manager Julen Lopetegui, Horchel shared his enthusiasm but praised Moyes for his work with the London club and tipped him for international management.
“I think Julen is going to do a good job,” Horschel said. “I’m excited.
“David Moyes was awesome. He took the club from one spot to another, and I think it’s time to pass the torch.
“I think Julen is going to do a good job, and I think David has got something up his sleeve in the next couple of years.
“I think maybe the Scottish national team job is going to be his.”
Horschel was speaking after shooting a 68 on his second round at Troon, putting him in fifth place at three under as he headed for the clubhouse.
“I’m very pleased,” he said. “Two really quality rounds of golf played and a really good position going into the weekend.
“I couldn’t ask for anything more after the first two rounds.
“It was a lot calmer [on Friday]. Listen, I hit a 2-iron off the middle of one yesterday that I think went about 200 yards, and I hit 2-iron, 6-iron. Today I hit 3-iron, chipped 8-iron into number one.
“It was a lot calmer. We got the benefit of the draw this morning compared to what these guys are going to play this afternoon.”
