Angelo Alessio has thanked Kilmarnock fans for supporting him during his six-month spell at Rugby Park.

The former Juventus and Chelsea number two, who was brought in to replace Steve Clarke in the summer, was sacked on Tuesday with Kilmarnock sitting fifth in the Premiership.

Posting on his Instagram page, he said: "Thanks to the fans for supporting me. Wish Kilmarnock Football Club all the best #Killie".

Kilmarnock finished third in the league last year leading to Clarke being appointed as Scotland manager.

Alessio, who also worked under Antonio Conte with the Italian national team, got off to a nightmare start by losing to Welsh part-time club Connah's Quay Nomads in the Europa League qualifiers.

In total he played 22 games, winning eight, losing eight and drawing six.
