Andy Murray has pulled out of the Australian Open.

The Wimbledon champion suffered a bruise to his pelvic bone last month during Britain’s Davis Cup campaign in Madrid.

The 32-year-old hoped to be back in top condition for the Grand Slam – which takes place in Melbourne between January 20 and February 2 – however both he and his team have taken the decision to hold off from rushing back and will not travel to Australia.

Murray – who returned to the circuit after undergoing a hip resurfacing operation at the beginning of the year – will continue hitting on court throughout January to build his fitness back up.
