An emotional Andy Murray broke down in tears after revealing that he had missed his grandmother’s funeral to compete in the Davis Cup for Great Britain.
The Scot won his singles match over debutant Leandro Reidi in a three-hour battle that finished 6-7 (7) 6-4 6-4 to give Great Britain a 1-0 lead over Switzerland.
In his on-court interview after the match, Murray became visibly tearful as he said that he had missed the funeral to play his tie.
“Today is a tough day for me, it’s my gran’s funeral today,” he said. “I’m sorry to my family that I’m not able to be there but gran, this one’s for you.”
"That was for you, Gran" ❤️

He then cut the interview short and left the court.
Murray had sat out Wednesday’s win over Australia, when captain Leon Smith opted to play Jack Draper and Dan Evans, but was called into action at the AO Arena in Manchester on Friday, before fellow Scot Cameron Norrie faced Stan Wawrinka.
