Andreas Skov Olsen wants to be part of Danny Rohl’s long-term aims for Rangers but stressed the need for short-term goals.
The 26-year-old Denmark winger signed on loan from Bundesliga side Wolfsburg until the end of the season, with the Govan club having an option to buy for a reported fee of around £9million.
Before Friday night’s 5-0 Scottish Gas Scottish Cup win over Annan Athletic at Ibrox, Skov Olsen and fellow January signings, 22-year-old Danish midfielder Tochi Chukwuani – who came off the bench later in the game – and Belgian left-back Tuur Rommens were introduced to the home crowd.
The former Bologna and Club Brugge attacker insists he could not pass up the chance to sign for “the biggest club” in Scotland and he could make his debut against Dundee at Ibrox next weekend when Rangers resume the most exciting title race in years.
Rohl’s side are behind second place Celtic on goal difference and six points behind leaders Hearts.
Skov Olsen spoke positively about Rohl’s vision for Rangers, saying: “It’s to be the best team every year in Scotland and I want to be a part of that.
“So, that’s why I really wanted to come here, to be a part of that.
“I would love to win trophies (this season) but it is one game at a time. and see where it ends at the end of the season – but we are going for it, that’s for sure.
“It’s very tight (title race) and that’s what I said, it’s one game at the time.
“You cannot look too far. You have to have a look on the next game and make sure you win that.”
The Dane is relishing the prospect of playing under the intense pressure at Rangers, who had previously shown interest in him.
He said: “It’s not nice to play football if there’s no pressure and that’s also what comes with playing for Rangers, the huge pressure there is and it’s just lovely.
“I can’t wait to feel it and to hopefully perform under it.
“There was (interest), some years ago so I’m so happy I’m finally here and I can’t wait to start.
“When I heard the interest from Rangers, I just really wanted to go and I’m super happy that it is finally is done and I’m here. So yeah, very happy.
“I feel very good. It was lovely to come to Ibrox and meet the team, meet the fans and the people around. A lovely night. A good win for the team. So I’m happy.”
Skov Olsen told Light Blues fans what they can expect to see from him and claims there is room for improvement.
He said: “I am an offensive player. Mostly on the wing. I would describe myself as a creative player.
“I also like to set my mates up, do assists, shoot and come inside, come outside, go to the byline, put in some crosses. Hopefully I can contribute with the goals and assists.
“I believe I have much more to give and to develop more and become a better player every day.”
