It came following a consultation between the manager and senior players from the club.
The 26-year-old, who was missing from training on Tuesday, was sent off after coming on as a sub in the 2-2 draw with Hibs at the weekend.
He has just recently returned to the squad after a long-term injury from last season that meant he missed the Europa League final in Seville.
The Ibrox side are preparing to take on PSV in the Netherlands following last week’s 2-2 draw in Glasgow in the first leg.
If Rangers win on Wednesday evening they will return to European football’s flagship competition for the first time in 12 years.
