Alan Burrows to step down at Aberdeen FC after three and a half years in charge citing 'family reasons'

Aberdeen Football Club’s chief executive has announced he is stepping down due to “family reasons”.

Alan Burrows has been at the helm of Aberdeen FC for the past three and a half years, during which they caused a major upset by beating Celtic to win the Scottish Cup in 2025.

This ended a 35-year drought for the club, with the Dons last winning the title in 1990.

Chairman Dave Cormack praised Burrows as someone who leads from the front and puts his heart and soul into his job.

He added: “The club is in a much better commercial position because of his leadership. Thanks to Alan’s drive, determination and enthusiasm, we’ve made significant strides in many areas, most notably fan engagement, creating a stronger platform on which to build for the future.

“On behalf of the Board, I’d like to thank Alan for all his efforts and reiterate that he will always be welcome at Pittodrie.”

During Burrows tenure, Aberdeen FC achieved a record number of season ticket sales in 2023/24, then broke that record in 2025/26, and delivered a 40% increase in commercial revenue.

Burrows said: “I’ve thoroughly enjoyed being at Aberdeen and want to place on record my sincere thanks to Dave and the Board for giving me the opportunity to lead this great club over the past three and a half years.

“I’ve had the privilege of working with a phenomenal group of staff, past and present, across Pittodrie and Cormack Park. Their achievements, on and off the pitch, are something I’m immensely proud to have been a part of. I want to thank each one of them for their hard work, determination, and willingness to innovate and embrace change.

“I’ve had so many fantastic memories, none more special than that unforgettable weekend of May 24, 2025 – that will live with me forever.

“Lastly, I want to thank the supporters and sponsors for the warmth and kindness they’ve shown to me and my family from the moment I arrived. Aberdeen is a brilliant city in a wonderful part of the world, and I’ll always look forward to returning.”
