Al-Ittihad have welcomed former Celtic star Jota to the club with a bizarre announcement video posted on their social-media channels.

The Saudi Arabian side secured the Portuguese winger’s services with a reported £25m deal that was confirmed on Monday night.

And the surreal Grand Theft Auto style announcement video caught the attention after it was posted to their official Twitter account.

It starts with a computerised version of manager Nuno Espirito Santo watching last season’s League Cup semi-final between Celtic and Rangers on his TV as Jota heads home the winner.

The winger’s trademark song ‘Jota on the Wing’ then plays in the background as the former Wolves boss jumps in his car and speeds through the streets towards a card shop.

In the shop he is shown a pack of Celtic cards, although most of the players depicted, including Giorgos Giakoumakis and Odsonne Edouard, have left the club and picks out the card with Jota’s picture printed on it before giving a mischievous smile.

He then puts the Jota card beside similar cards of other new Al-Itihad signings of Karim Benzema and N’Golo Kante as he starts to imagine several trophies, including the FIFA World Club Cup, which start to whirl around his head.

He then tells the shopkeeper “We want to rule the world” as a lightning strike flashes down upon the King Abdullah Sports City stadium.

Since it was posted late on Monday night the video has been liked over 50k times on Twitter and has been retweeted over 30,000 times in around 12 hours.

Jota spent two years in Glasgow where he became a firm favourite of the support and helped the club win five out of six domestic trophies available.

He scored four goals against Rangers and a memorable free-kick against Real Madrid in the Champions League.

His last touch of a ball in the hoops was a goal in the Scottish Cup final as they secured a world record eighth treble in early June.
