Aberdeen star Leighton Clarkson will miss the first two months of the new season after suffering an injury.
Jimmy Thelin’s men kick-off their season with a game at St Johnstone on Monday.
But they will have to do so without the 27-year-old midfielder.
The club confirmed on Friday that he picked up a shoulder injury that will keep him on the sidelines for around eight weeks.
Aberdeen said in a statement: “The manager has today confirmed that Leighton Clarkson has sustained a shoulder injury that will keep him out for up to eight weeks.
“The influential midfielder had made an impressive start to the season but following a collision in last weekend’s match a fracture was found in his shoulder which will rule him out of action.
“We wish Leighton a speedy recovery.”
Clarkson scored two goals in four League Cup group stage appearances this season as the Dons topped their section to reach the last-16.
